How to make the BEST & easiest chocolate cream that you can use to either make amazing pudding ... OR you can add it to a cooked pie crust. This recipe is JUST for the cream. I'll add a pie crust recipe separately, but if you want to make it REALLY easy for yourself - grab a frozen Marie Calendar's pie crust- its almost as good a homemade and makes it so much easier to have a pie. BUT don't fill it with the jello brand instant pudding stuff -- trust me. NOTHING replaces the real thing when it comes to cream pudding pie.
CREAM PIE FILLING RECIPE by Kylee Bell
Makes enough filling for 1 deep pie (plus maybe 1/4 cup extra filling to just eat :) )
Ingredients:
1/4 cup cornstarch
1 1/2 cup sugar
pinch salt
3 cups whole milk
4 egg yolks
2 TB butter
2 tsp vanilla
3.5 oz bittersweet chocolate chips (for chocolate pie filling
Directions:
Mix cornstarch, sugar and salt in a medium-large saucepan.
Add in ONE cup of the whole milk and blend with either fork or whisk until no clumps.
Add in the remaining 2 cups of whole milk
Whisk in the egg yolk
Prep your other ingredients but do not add them yet (you'll be stirring constantly so it's helpful to have the butter, vanilla, and chocolate chips already measured out).
Heat the saucepan on HIGH while whisking constantly. It's important to whisk constantly and to NOT walk away as the milk mixture could burn.
Heat until the mixture gets frothy and then clear. JUST before it starts to boil, remove from heat.
Once removed from heat, stir in butter and vanilla and whisk until fully mixed.
For chocolate cream, stir in the chocolate chips and mix until blended.
Pour into a cooled (but baked) pie crust OR if you just want the cream, allow it to cool slightly and then pour into a plastic or glass container.
Place prepared pie into the fridge to set.
Eat and enjoy!! You can top with whipped cream or add sliced bananas.
I don't have nutrition facts yet, but this is 100% a dessert and contains high fat milk and sugar sooooooo - indulge and enjoy!
